Your journey is going to be ups and downs. You are going to mess up, and your going to do things right. Most breeders going through breeding season are not always successful during every project. But other projects they are so successful they make their name known across the reptile industry. As seen in a picture above taken by myself, I have had a Texas Rat Snake for 11 years and I have had to treat sickness for him 4 times. I told myself I was bad owner and did not deserve to have him. But that did not stop me from wanting to take care of snakes. On the plus side, my snake fully recovered from his sickness and he was back to good condition and is still thriving today. I don’t have more snakes right now because my parents will not let me get more than one. But now that I am grown and on my way to pursuing a job, I might add to my collection. As I said in another post, you start with the most basic snakes in the pet trade and work your way up to the most expertise level snakes. You would not want to start with the hardest snakes and simply lose your passion because you took on challenge you were not ready for. All you need is patience. If you make a mistake, let it go. What last happened does not matter. What matters is what your going to do next. Best of luck to everyone who reads this post.

This is Maverick, my pet Texas Rat Snake. I got him in June 2010, which so happened to be the best summer of my life. Part of it was because I became a snake owner after years of trying to convince my parents to let me get a snake. He went through all of my teenage years and he also lives with me at Texas State University in my apartment. When I was in 7th grade, my language arts teacher gave me permission to bring him to school. I presented to all of her classes giving information about the snake. I even let all of the classmates hold him after I got done with my presentation. I definitely showed the classmates that snakes are not evil and can make good pets. That might have been my first step in showing others that snakes are good creatures and not evil creatures. I would not hesitate to bring him anywhere and I am proud to love snakes regardless of the fact that most people in this world don’t like them. But I was made to spread the passion of snakes so that is what I am going to do.
